Summary
- Sonic X Shadow Generations sells 2 million units, a hit for SEGA in 2024.
- Despite being a remake, the game is a success, generating revenue for SEGA.
- SEGA’s movie franchise also performing well, with Sonic crossing $1 billion in ticket sales.
SEGA has another hit in their hands, as Sonic X Shadow Generations is now a multi-million seller, joining the ranks of Metaphor ReFantazio as one of the publisher’s games released in 2024 that moved a ton of units.
This was revealed in SEGA’s latest quarterly earnings report (via VGC) where it announced that Sonic X Shadow Generations has now hit two million units sold.
Sonic Continues To Rake In The Dough For SEGA
While Sonic X Shadow Generations has a long way to go before it catches up to the best-selling 3D Sonic game, Sonic Frontiers, which is at 3.5 million units sold, it’s still an impressive feat, especially considering Sonic X Shadow Generations is a remake of the 2011 platformer.
Atlus’ Metaphor ReFantazio has already passed one million units sold in its first day of availability, though SEGA hasn’t provided a sales update for the RPG.
It’s not only a commercial success, but Sonic X Shadow Generaations is a fun game as well. Our review of it mentions, “Alongside a lovingly remastered Sonic Generations showcase, Shadow Generations is a dark and broody triumph that not only pays homage to the cult classic outing of yester-year for the troubled hedgehog, but also irons out all the aspects that fans didn’t quite take to, effectively giving Shadow the do-over they deserve.”
