Summary
- Turok: Origins is a third-person shooter in a major departure from the original games.
- Saber Interactive promises the same quality and production values as seen in Space Marine 2.
- Origins will feature compelling narrative, single player, and co-op gameplay.
At The Game Awards, one of the surprise reveals was a brand-new entry in the Turok franchise, titled Turok: Origins, which is being developed by Saber Interactive, the studio behind Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2.
Aside from the major graphical upgrade, one notable key difference franchise fans might have noticed is how Origins is now played as a third-person shooter, compared to the original games in the series, which were in first-person. Even if that is a major departure from what fans of the franchise might be expecting, Saber Interactive insists it is being made with respect to the source material.
Saber Interactive Says Quality and Production Values Of Space Marine 2 Can Be Found In Turok: Origins
In an interview, game director Jesus Iglesias points out their past works as a reference point to how they’re handling Turok: Origins, stating, “If there’s one thing we know how to do at Saber, it’s how to treat games based on well-known IPs respectfully, and Turok: Origins is no exception.”
Iglesias further adds, “Space Marine 2 players have experienced the quality and production values that are standard at Saber, and they can be found in Turok: Origins as well. We hope that a compelling narrative and great single-player and co-op gameplay will also appeal to players who enjoyed Space Marine 2.”

10 Best Nintendo 64 Games Ever Made, Ranked
The Nintendo 64 had some amazing titles. It can be tough to choose a favorite. Here are some of the best games on the console.
While Turok was originally a comic book character that debuted in 1954 in Four Color Comics, the character shot to fame with the release of Turok: Dinosaur Hunter on the Nintendo 64 back in 1997. Since then, countless sequels have been released, with the most recent game based on the brand being Turok: Escape from the Lost Valley, which was unrelated to the previous games and was released in July 2019 for the Xbox One and PC. Unfortunately, this title didn’t fare critically or commercially and was later delisted on digital storefronts in January 2022.
When it comes to the most recent releases, Nightdive Studios has pushed out remastered versions of the games based on the Nintendo 64, with the latest one being Turok 3: Shadow of Oblivion, released in November 2023 for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Switch and PC.
While Iglesias’ statement might look like they’re patting themselves on the back, it’s not without merit, as Saber has successfully released games based on existing IPs. World War Z and even one based on the Evil Dead film franchise are the most notable ones, with World War Z still getting consistent support even after over five years of being out on the market.
Turok: Origins has no release window, but Saber Interactive has confirmed it’s coming to PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
