Marvel Rivals: How to Play Storm

Marvel Rivals: How to Play Storm

Storm is a ranged Duelist hero in Marvel Rivals, but she actually has more in common with the Strategist heroes: she’s a support hero through and through.

While you’re capable of dishing out DPS and picking off enemies as Storm, ultimately, your job is to assist your teammates and help turn the tides of team battles.

Our Marvel Rivals guide for Storm will run down her abilities, offer tips and tricks, and help you dominate the battlefield.

Storm Abilities

Marvel Rivals Storm hero

Storm’s difficulty level in Marvel Rivals is three out of five stars. Despite this middle-of-the-road difficulty, I wouldn’t say she’s accessible to beginners.

While flying above the battlefield sounds fun, it can make you a sitting duck against the game’s premiere ranged Duelists. Thankfully, proper positioning and smart play make you an essential ally who can live throughout a team fight.

Let’s start by going over her abilities.

Ability

Description

Wind Blade

Normal Attack. Launch forward-piercing Wind Blades. Deals 50 damage per round. Falloff begins at 15 meters, decreasing to 50% at 30 meters. Fires 2 rounds per second. Holds 12 ammo. Wind Blade can pierce through enemies.

Omega Hurricane

Ultimate Ability. Transform into a hurricane to draw in nearby enemies and deal damage. Can select your transformation point for 5 seconds. Tornado lasts 5 seconds. Deals 2 hits per second, dealing 75 damage each hit. Grants 350 bonus health.

Switch the weather to empower allies: Tornado grants a Movement Boost; Thunder grants a Damage Boost. Tornado boosts 16% self move, 8% ally move. Thunder boosts 16 self damage, 8% ally damage. Allies must in 15 meter range.

Goddess Boost

Channel the power of the weather to empower Storm: Tornado grants a Movement Boost and inflicts Slow on enemies; Thunder grants a Damage Boost and summons lightning to inflict damage. Tornado boosts self move 40%, ally move 20%. Thunder boost self damage 30%, ally damage 12%. Cooldown: 15 seconds.

Bolt Rush

Unleash a lightning bolt forward. Deals 70 damage. Cooldown: 8 seconds.

Charged Gale

Team-Up Ability. Thor infuses Thorforce into Storm and Captain America, granting them an electrifying enhancement. With an electrifying enhancement, Storm can unleash a lightning barrage. With an electrifying enhancement, Captain America gains a Movement Boost, and his shield is imbued with thunder power, electrocuting nearby enemies. Deals 50 damage with up to 3 bounces. Cooldown: 20 seconds.

Storm Offensive Strategies

The most important ability for Storm is weather control. Knowing when to switch between Tornado and Thunder is the key to playing her well.

Your impact on the fight won’t be visible on the kill counts but on how often you assist your allies.

With that in mind, here are some helpful tips when playing offensively with Storm:

  • Play vertically to find the proper vantage point to attack enemies while buffing your allies.
  • If your Team-Up Ability is live, you have impressive burst damage abilities. Use them wisely; you can surprise people and kill them quicker than you realize, especially if you’re boosting your own damage.
  • Since kill stealing isn’t a thing in Marvel Rivals, use that to your advantage. You excel at picking off retreating enemies.

Storm Defensive Strategies

A support character is essential to keep on bringing the fight to the opposing team, and it’s great when a plan comes together. However, there will be times when self-preservation takes precedence.

You can’t buff your allies if you’re dead. Here’s how you can live as long as possible.

  • Just because you can fly high in the sky doesn’t mean you should. Not only do you run the risk of being out of range of your team, but you can easily get picked off by enemy Duelists.
  • Keep tabs on your HUD to see how many allies are being buffed. Being near them is helpful even if you’re not actively participating in a team fight.
  • Without the Tornado movement buff, you move slower than you may realize. Know when to have it active and use it to stay out of harm’s way.

Thor

Team-Up Ability. Thor infuses Thorforce into Storm and Captain America, granting them an electrifying enhancement. With an electrifying enhancement, Storm can unleash a lightning barrage. With an electrifying enhancement, Captain America gains a Movement Boost, and his shield is imbued with thunder power, electrocuting nearby enemies. Deals 50 damage with up to 3 bounces. Cooldown: 20 seconds.

It may not seem like much, but it gives you another instant cast ability that can also bounce to nearby enemies. It’s super effective at finishing off low-health enemies or ripening them up for your other Duelists.

While you play a more supportive role as a Duelist with Storm, these effects add up over time. Whether finishing off low-health enemies or ripening them up for your finishers, use Charged Gale as often as possible.

Storm Counters & How to Deal with Them

You can’t spend your entire time playing Storm while on the ground. As a result, you’re going to be shot out of the sky by Hawkeye, Black Widow, The Punisher, and Hela.

You also don’t deal impressive damage, so someone like Iron Fist or Psylocke will have their day with you.

Thankfully, by being able to fly, you can stay out of harm’s way from dangerous Vanguards.

Best Team Comps With Storm

Thor is an obvious choice to unlock your Team-Up Ability.

Someone like Psylocke or other assassins who can take out enemy snipers will let you roam the sky without issue.

Vanguards like Venom or Hulk, who can initiate and draw attention, are ideal, as are strategists who can heal you from below, particularly Mantis.

Since you’re buffing everyone else’s damage, you will be every Duelist’s best friend. Psylocke is at least able to poke people from a distance, but other assassins like Black Panther and Iron Fist may not be good teammates as they’ll live outside your buff radius.

Stick with Hela, The Punisher, Hawkeye, Black Widow, or honestly, anyone that is a ranged DPS.
