December’s new PlayStation Plus Classics brings more Sly Cooper games, along with Jak & Daxter – WGB

Sony has lifted the lid on what games will be getting added to the PlayStation Classics lineup on December 10, and its good news Sly Cooper fans!

Yes, everyone’s favourite thieving trash panda is back. Sly 2: Band of Thieves and Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves arrive on December 10, joining the original Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus which came out earlier this year.

While it is not specifically mentioned in the blog post, both of the Sly games will presumably be available to purchase separately for those of us who don’t have an active Premium membership, like other PlayStation first-party Classics have been. It’s also assumed they will both be running on PlayStation’s new emulation tech and will have full trophy support. At least, I hope they will because I have that shiny Platinum for the first game and would love to complete the collection.

Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus is now out on PS4 and PS5 via Sony’s newest PlayStation 2 emulation software. Is the classic platformer worth playing?

However, it’s worth mentioning that Sony can be annoyingly vague when it comes to specifics in regards to Classic titles. For example, just recently the first Resistance game was announced to be coming to the Classics lineup and I assumed it would also be emulated, thus finally letting us play Resistance without having to use PlayStation’s terrible game streaming service. But no. Despite Resistance being mentioned along the with the other Classic titles and thus implying it would be emulated, it was just the streaming version.

Dear Sony, please start offering more details so that hopes do not need to be smushed. Sincerely, me.

The third game joining the Classics lineup is a bit more peculiar. Jak & Daxter: The Precursor’s Legacy is already available to buy and play, along with several other titles from the franchise. You can also access the Jak & Daxter games by having an active PlayStation Plus Premium subscription. The PlayStation blog provides no explanation as to why they will have two versions of Jak & Daxter: The Precursor Legacy, so we are left to assume some details: the existing Jak & Daxter titles are all PS4 ports of the original game, while this new edition will probably run using the new emulation tech and will thus be fairly close to playing the PS2 original.

Sly 2, Sly 3 and Jak & Daxter will arrive on December 10, and will be included as part of your Premium subscription.
