Kids love rewatching the same movie over and over again (remember when Frozen came out?). They also happen to love Bluey. Now, thanks to Disney, there will finally be a Bluey movie they can replay repeatedly!
Walt Disney Studios and BBC Studios have announced a feature-length Bluey film, set for 2027, written and directed by Joe Brumm, creator of the beloved character.
Amber Naismith (The Lego Batman Movie, The Lego Movie) will produce. Richard Jeffrey, the show’s primary director, will co-direct with Brumm.

Who’s Returning To The Cast?
David McCormack and Melanie Zanetti, who voice Dad (Chili) and Mum (Bandit) will perform as the same characters in the movie. The assumption is that the show’s uncredited child actors will join the cast, too.
This continuity is important, as voice recasting can be jarring for young fans. Just ask anyone (me) who lived through Disney’s A Goofy Movie (1995). In the show Goof Trip, Goofy’s son, Max, was just a preteen. But the film had him in high school, so he got a brand-new voice. For Bluey, I can’t imagine the global outcry that would ensue.
Brumm’s Trifficult Announcement
As excited as fans might be about the Bluey movie announcement, there was more to Brumm’s blog post, news he called “trifficult”.
I always said I wouldn’t keep making the show if I thought I couldn’t make any new season as good as the last. This would have been the case for me with a potential season four, so I’ve decided to take a break from my involvement in the TV series. In the event I can’t wrap my head around doing more seasons myself, The Sign will mark my TV finale for Bluey and I wrote it as such.
Bluey has completely changed my life. It’s been an immensely satisfying thing to be part of, more than I can really put into words. To walk away from it while it’s at such a height will seem crazy to some but, for now, I am finding it difficult to reach back genuinely into that four to six year old world and write authentically…. To be clear, this is not an announcement about the end of the show, but it is an acknowledgment that my focus will be on the film.
What Happened In The Sign?
“The Sign” is the 49th episode of Bluey’s third season. It’s noteworthy because it’s 28 minutes, when most Bluey episodes are specifically seven. Right away, the episode signals something different because there’s a “For Sale” sign in the Heeler’s front yard.
The whole episode is about the family coming to terms with leaving this place they love and starting a fresh life. While they ultimately don’t move, the episode was a way for Brumm to introduce the difficult topic of chapters in life coming to an end and new ones beginning. Which seems, in hindsight, like a meta commentary for the potential that, one day, kids might have to move on from the show. Or Brumm himself might move on from the show.
But, for now, we know he’s focused on the Bluey movie. Maybe that will inspire him anew and Bluey Season 4 will follow quickly. Regardless, for kids—and parents—the film offers something new to look forward to.
