A New Era of Dinosaur Begins with First Trailer for Jurassic World Rebirth

A New Era of Dinosaur Begins with First Trailer for Jurassic World Rebirth

After years of battling extinction-level volcanic eruptions and the evil greed of the BioSyn company, Jurassic World is returning to theaters across the world with a facelift, new star actors, and a more simplistic plotline. The nearly two-and-a-half-minute trailer shines the spotlight on newcomers like Scarlett Johansson and a whole new cast of terrifying dinosaurs genetically altered to be extra dangerous.

Meet The New Expedition Team

The Jurassic franchise has quite a collection of famous actors throughout its nearly twenty years of runtime. Jeff Goldbloom comes to mind when talking about Jurassic Park. Chris Pratt was a huge actor off his time with Marvel when he came over for the dawn of Jurassic World.

Now, another Marvel star is getting her shot at helming the Jurassic World franchise with Scarlett Johansson playing the newest mission lead, Zora Bennett. Johansson has swapped her trademark Black Widow red hair for a deep tan but still sports the same acrobatics and strength a lot of her roles are known for.

The rest of the cast so far rounds out with Johnathan Bailey stepping in as the latest high intellect doctor character in the Jurassic World films, playing Dr. Henry Loomis. Loomis’ quick wit and grim reality checks can be seen throughout the trailer, constantly warning his expedition team the true dangers of their voyage.

Green Book and Moonlight star Mahershala Ali is also a part of this film playing what looks to be Bennett’s favorite smuggler on the planet known as Duncan Kincaid. Kincaid pops up in a couple of spots during the trailer, playing cards in a bar while also trying to survive some pretty terrifying dinosaurs in the action shots.

What We’re All Here for, the Dinosaurs!

This trailer sprawls with many snippet shots of iconic dinosaurs of the past and some new, terrifying, genetically mutated ones. Throughout its runtime, the Jurassic World Rebirth trailer features about eight unique dinosaurs.

First up are the iconic dinosaurs everyone expects when they see a Jurassic Park and/or World movie on their screens. While it isn’t the fan favorite Rexy, the trailer confirmed through a river chase scene that the Tyrannosaurus Rex is on the Site C island Bennett and Loomis venture to. It is important to note that this new island is stated to be where the dinosaurs “too dangerous for the park” went, so any dinosaur, even the staple T-Rex could have some specific and dangerous mutations.

Now, to really give fans a blast from the past, the Jurassic World Rebirth trailer also confirmed the return of the carnivorous water-bound Spinosaurus. The Spinosaurus was last scene all the way back in Jurassic Park III, and in that film there was only one big bad Spinosaurus to deal with, this time around there are three to contend with. Our latest exploration group can be spotted on a large boat when three Spinosaurus attack, along with another familiar and larger titan of the seas dinosaur.

Yes, you guessed it, the Mosasaurus will also be a part of the latest Jurassic World film. Right as the three Spinosaurus’ attack the boat, out of nowhere flies the biggest dinosaur in the sea. A running theme of this film shown in the trailer seems to be collecting all the dino’s DNA from this island, and none seem to be as challenging as taming or at the very least distracting the Mosasaurus.

Some other returning fan favorites spotted in the latest Jurassic World Rebirth trailer include two smaller but unique land-based dinosaurs, the Velociraptor, and the Dilophosaurus. The iconic claws of the Velociraptor can be seen during a classic Jurassic tense scene inside some sort of old site C lab as the protagonists try their best not to alert the killing machine.

The Dilophosaurus pops up towards the end with its flaps up seemingly seconds away from firing its acid-like venom at its victims. At this point, it doesn’t feel like a Jurassic film without these two staple dinos within it.

Wrapping up returning dinosaurs is the god of the skies introduced in Jurassic World Dominion, the Quetzalcoatlus. A carnivorous, bird-like Dinosaur the size of an F-16, as stated by Dr. Loomis himself during the trailer, flies into its second Jurassic movie in a row. During the trailer we watch Dr. Loomis and Bennett climb to the Quetzalcoatlus’ lair to try and extract its DNA from one of its eggs, only for the giant-winged beast to find them before the trailer cuts away.

Now, we arrive at the two newcomers to the Jurassic family. First up is the dosile giant known as the Titanosaurus, a bigger, slightly modified version of the Brachiosaurus Grant and company spot in the very first Jurassic Park movie back in 1993. This giant Sauropod makes its first movie appearance, only ever being featured in the non-canon Jurassic video game LEGO Jurassic World: Legend of Isla Nublar.

On the flip side, the most mysterious new dino shown in the trailer is one of an unknown name currently, but looks to be the deadliest yet. A known gene spliced dino so dangerous it couldn’t be in Jurassic Park, the few looks fans get show this dinosaur looking like a cross between the Rancor from Star Wars and the Xenomorph from Alien. The few shots we get show it being distracted by Kincaid with a flare and inside a containment tube with an unknown scientist.

A lot of fun dinosaurs have already been teased in the trailer and a new cast seems to breathe fresh life into the Jurassic World franchise that aims to beat the series’ poor reviews while raking in potentially a billion once more in the box office. Jurrasic World Rebirth will be available in theaters for viewing this July.
