Summary
- Remedy Connected Universe links Alan Wake & Control through crossover DLC.
- Remedy’s creative director, Sam Lake, plans to expand lore through connected universe.
- Control’s sequel in development and expected to tie into Alan Wake 2 even more.
If you’ve played Alan Wake 2 and saw references to Control, it’s not just an Easter egg that Remedy Entertainment snuck into the game. In case you didn’t know, Alan Wake and Control are all in the Remedy Connected Universe and are part of the studio’s grand design.
The initial connection started with Control’s AWE (Altered World Event) DLC, and last year’s excellent horror game Alan Wake 2 tied to it even more, with a full crossover DLC titled The Lake House that starred Control’s Kiran Estevez. In Remedy’s universe, Estevez is a Federal Bureau of Control (FBC) field agent stationed at Bright Falls.

Remedy Says It’s Too Early To Talk About Connected Universes’ Endgame
In a video chat with IGN (via GamesRadar), Remedy Creative Director Sam Lake mentioned that the studio is “just getting started” connecting their games together into one shared universe, and how “it’s too early to start talking about an endgame.”
Lake adds, “I love making it deeper and expanding on the lore. It really feels like this kind of opportunity to take these strands that we have put there, expand, entertain different ideas. It feels really exciting. And the way we are looking at it is, every game needs to be enjoyable on its own and stand on its own feet, but then, for our fans, for people who have been playing other Remedy games, we want to put in a lot of content for them to discover for the ongoing universe story.”

Alan Wake 2: 10 Best Easter Eggs, Ranked
Alan Wake 2 is packed full of Easter eggs and references to other properties – Remedy’s or otherwise.
With Control’s sequel in full development at Remedy, expect it to tie into Alan Wake 2 even more. If you haven’t played Control yet, it’s a weird but memorable trip, and is more action-oriented than Alan Wake. You can check out our review of it here to see what you’re getting into.
As for Alan Wake 2, while Remedy hasn’t announced a third chapter in the franchise, given how the second game ended, it’s only a matter of time before the studio announces another entry is on the way. Add in how the studio has recouped chiefly the development and marketing expenses for the horror game; it seems like it’s not something that will put Remedy in the red as well.
As someone who loved Alan Wake 2, I suggest giving it a go even if you haven’t played the first game. It got a near-perfect score in our review, where it’s mentioned, “Alan Wake 2 solidified for me that Remedy is a developer I can trust deeply to deliver a thoughtful, high concept narrative that delves into dark and unsettling territory while balancing that with well-placed humor and levity. The characters know that they’re experiencing absurdities along with the horrors, and that somehow makes the impossible all the more real.”
There’s another game in development at Remedy that ties into the universe, and it’s FBC: Firebreak, though this one is a multiplayer-focused title and is due for release in 2025.
