Glen Powell Led Football Comedy ‘Chad Powers’ Drops First Teaser

We’ve gotten our first look at a transformed Glen Powell in the first teaser trailer for Chad Powers, a comedic football TV series, coming to Hulu viewers in 2025. Powell, hot off IMDB’s breakout stars of 2024 list, plays former college quarterback Russ Holliday, who is looking to revive his football career with a new team, a new face, and a new name, Chad Powers.

The show is inspired directly by an episode of “Eli’s Places” where two-time Superbowl champion quarterback Eli Manning dawned facial prosthetics and a wig while going undercover at a tryout for Penn State football as Chad Powers.

There is little known about the show so far outside the basic plotline and the cast coming in. Steve Zahn, Toby Huss, and Perry Mattfeld are all signed on to play Russ’ best friend, father, and potential love interest in the series. Powell is also credited as a co-creator and co-executive producer of the series alongside Loki and Rick and Morty producer Michael Waldron.

After the semi-recent success of sports-based comedies like Ted Lasso, it isn’t too surprising to see other studios trying their hand at a similar style. Even with just a crumb of details available for Chad Powers, the teaser and overall plot give off a similar vibe to a Ted Lasso mixed with the football roots of shows like All American or Friday Night Lights. An inspirational comedy based on one of America’s biggest pastimes could see success, especially with such a big name in Glen Powell attached to it.

Powell is certainly best known for his action and romantic comedy movies over the past couple of years. His performance in Top Gun: Maverick as Hangman put him on the Hollywood map, but his appearances in Anyone But You alongside Sydney Sweeney and his recent lead role as Tyler in the Twisters reboot have solidified Powell as a true A-lister. Powell has dipped his feet into the comedy world, most notably with Netflix’s Hit Man alongside Adria Arjona where he plays a college professor moonlighting as a hitman.

Other notable details for Chad Powers, both Manning brothers Eli and Peyton are official producers of the show. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter Powell discussed how this role is one of the hardest he’s taken in his career so far, citing the balance of having to play a kinder-spirit when he’s Chad Powers versus Russ Holliday a much meaner guy. Currently there is no release date for Chad Powers outside a 2025 release on Hulu.
