The Brave And The Bold, The DCU”s First Batman Movie, Postponed For Who Knows How Long

Following the news that Warner Bros. had pushedThe Batman Part II to October 2027, Andy Muschietti (The Flash) has confirmed his Batman DCU film, The Brave and the Bold, has also been delayed.

While guesting on the California Secreta podcast, Muschetti said:

I’m now writing a science fiction movie that I would like to do… Batman is a project that’s been postponed a bit. So there could be another film before it, possibly that one.

What Caused The Delay For The Brave And The Bold?

On the one hand, The Brave and the Bold never had a release date to begin with. So it’s not like it got bumped from 2025 to 2035. The postponement could be due to any number of reasons. Maybe Gunn and Warner Bros. want to see how everyone reacts to Superman? Maybe the script isn’t ready yet? Maybe they’ve had casting issues?

Superman Teaser Trailer: Six DC Characters You May Have Missed

James Gunn released a teaser trailer for Superman, debuting popular DC characters like Green Lantern, Hawk Girl, Krypto, and more.

If you want to get really gossipy, it’s possible that Gunn and Warner Bros. want to find a way to fold Reeves’s Batman universe into the DCU. Especially after the success of Penguin on HBO. Or maybe WB doesn’t want to promote two Batman movies at the same time, so won’t let Brave and the Bold move forward until Part II is out?

Gunn is very active on Threads, so maybe he’ll explain soon and put the speculation to rest.

Why Isn’t The Batman Part Of The DCU?

Gunn has explained this a few times, but it was ultimately a decision made by Matt Reeves. For example, in December of 2023, Gunn said (on Threads):

It’s not an “allowed” thing, it’s Matt’s choice, and we respect that.

Until Gunn announces casting for his Bruce Wayne, there’s always a chance the Reeves-verse joins the DCU. But, as of December 2024, that’s not the announced plan.
